Cast iron cooking on the grill has been my summer addiction.  Recently I decided to make pizza on the grill.  The how-to that I have demonstrated here was my third attempt.  So it might take a few tries to get it just right, but I’m confident you will enjoy the process and the results!



Step 1:  Preheat the grill to 400 degrees

Step 2:  Prepare dough and pizza pan

 I purchased a cast iron pizza pan (it is available at the Machine Shed for $42.00), I rubbed cooking oil around the pan and rolled out my pizza dough and placed on top of the pan.



Step 3:  Place cold cast iron pizza pan with dough on hot grill.  Decrease or turn off the grill burners that are directly under the pan.  You no longer want direct flame on the bottom of the pan, but rather heat on the sides.  My grill has 4 burners and I kept the two outer burners on medium and turned off the two inner burners.



Step 4:  Close grill lid, let cook for 5-10 mins.  Don’t open unless you have to, you are actually “baking” the dough as well as grilling and you don’t want the hot air to escape by opening the grill lid too much.

Step 5:  Check bottom of the dough and when you see the crust start to turn golden, flip the crust over and close lid for 5 mins.


Step 6:  Gather your ingredient toppings (pre-cook any meat, sausage or chicken), open grill and top pizza





Step 7:  Cook until cheese is melted and browned.  Remove cast iron pan from the grill (you’ll need oven mitts, VERY hot!) and transfer to a hot pad.  You can cut the pizza directly in the pan, or use a large spatula and lift off the pan onto a cutting board to cut.
