You say toe-may-toe, I say toe-mah-toe, but the Machine Shed says nutritional value! That’s right, this time of the year is when tomatoes are at their peak. Tomatoes are loaded with vitamin C and lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant that, when eaten, helps protect humans’ skin from sun damage. This is so valuable in these late summer months. You can eat them raw or cooked, either way you’re helping your skin avoid wrinkles while pleasing your taste buds at the same time! On your next grocery run or farmers market visit, make sure to pick up some of these shiny red fruits. We get a bulk of tomatoes from local farmers during this time of year in each of our Machine Shed communities to use in some of your favorite dishes!
We will leave you with a thought – knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad and philosophy is wondering, “does that make ketchup a fruit smoothie??”
