Over the past few months, The Machine Shed Restaurant in Urbandale has been busy as we have been working hard to provide our guests with new and exciting additions to our restaurant, ones that highlight our dedication to the American farmer. Recent visitors may have noticed the new stone walls surrounding our pond as you drive into our parking lot. But that’s just the beginning of what’s in store!
In the coming year, we’re transforming this area into an orchard, home to as many as forty vibrant yellow and McIntosh red apple trees. The best part? The apples we harvest from this orchard will find their way directly into our kitchen, adding more locally sourced produce to your dining table!
Starting in the next week, we’ll embark on an exciting new project—the construction of our very own chicken coop. It’s an opportunity for families to delve into the world of chicken farming, offering insights into raising chickens and introducing you to a wide array of chicken breeds. Partnering with Murray McMurray Hatchery, we’ve curated a diverse collection of chicken breeds, ranging from Ameraucanas to Whiting True Green. Plus, we will have an online poll so all of our Shed patrons can help name our new additions!
Keep an eye open for future blog posts featuring our chickens from Murray McMurray Hatchery, as well as the Hatchery’s 2024 catalog which will be available later this year.
Here are some sneak peek photos of our chickens coming to the Machine Shed in October!
