As summer fades into autumn, sunflowers bring a burst of sunshine and rustic charm to any space. In this blog post, we will show you how to craft a sunflower wreath that effortlessly transitions your decor from summer to fall. Whether you are a seasoned DIY enthusiast or a beginner to crafts, join us as we create a welcoming sunflower wreath that captures the essence of autumn.
What you will need:
- Gold Colored Bandanas (9 of them)
- Rope (about 16-18 feet worth)
- Round Wire Wreath (12 inch)
- Zip Ties (4 inches)
- Spray Starch (optional but highly recommended)
- Paper Plate (needs to be a tad bigger than the inside diameter of the wreath)
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue
- Scissors
Directions:
- Cut each bandana into 4 squares so that you end up with 36 pieces. Spray each square with spray starch and iron. The spray starch will help keep the fabric to stay the way you want.
- Next, you will want to put your zip ties on the row second of the outside of the wreath and on the inside row. Our wreath had 6 sections so we put 3 zip ties per section. When putting them on, you want to stop when you hear the click so that they stay loose enough that you can put the bandana through.
- Now, you will want to start making your petals. You will take one of the bandana pieces and fold it in half diagonally. Then you will pinch the fabric in the middle of the long edge and then on one of the sides you have pinched, fold up the fabric until you reach the end, do this on the other side as well.
- The next step is to put your pinched side of the petal through the zip tie and pull the zip tie tight. Repeat this process for all 36 of your petals. You can cut the end off of the zip ties if you would like.
- For the center of the sunflower, we will use the plate, rope, scissors, and a hot glue gun. You will want to use the back side of a paper plate and go ahead and mark the middle with a pen. Cut the edge of your rope at a slight angle so that it will blend better when you go to wrap the plate and do this again if you start a new piece of rope. Start by placing the hot glue in the middle of the plate and wrapping around followed by the rope. Repeat this process until the entire plate is covered with rope.
- When your rope is dried onto your plate, flip it over and cover the edge of the plate with hot glue. Place the plate onto the center of your wreath so that it attaches to the fabric of the bandana.
- Lastly, hang it up so everyone can see!
